- In sequences of a drama film camera shots tend to be quite far away and draw closer as we get more into the sequence. It may start as a birds-eye view or a long shot then ends up getting closer to the location or characters. Movement tend to follow the action or character(s) in whatever is happening.
- In a drama sequence cuts are made very quick and it switches from scene to scene. it may switch from action to action.
When watching the film 'One Day' clips switched from gang to gang.
The speed of the cuts and clips are average, not too fast and not too slow.
Not much special effects are involved in drama films as they tend to be realistic and a perception of reality which doesn't include too much special effects that may make the film look fake.
- In drama sequences the location is one of the main things we see in the opening. we may see the city or area in which the film takes place in. the main location are revealed for example, an estate, neighbourhood or prison may be seen.
Costumes are also seen. This depends on the characters involved. In the drama films I've watched their costumes mainly consisted of tracksuits, jeans and casual clothing.
Props can be included in the sequence and these can be things life guns and knives.
Lighting in a drama sequence is mainly natural lighting. This also perceives reality in realistic terms and tens not to use artificial lighting.
- In a drama sequence it is mainly Foley, ambient and diegetic sound. all sound is natural and the source may be visible on screen. Sound is also synchronous and relates to the clip being viewed on screen. Not a lot of sound effects are used to keep the clip realistic. Dialogue between characters may also be heard in the sequence.
Macro conventions
. Drama sequences tend to reveal some sort of drama in their title sequences. This can be gang related, police related, wars, riots and some sort of conflict.
. The main characters may be introduced in the title sequence. In most cases these are gang members, working class people, people in a struggle etc.
. Most of the time the people in dramas are working or lower class, represent negatively.
